A few years ago, my son and I sat down with paper and crayons and wrote a story together. Little did we know someone would want to publish it and now it’s out in the world for you. Lenny the Lobster Can’t Stay for Dinner tells the tale of a fancy lobster at a dinner party. Lucky for the reader, they get to decide whether Lenny stays or goes!

Just a little over a decade ago, I sat down to write the first Sisters Grimm book. Little did I know that 8 more books would follow, that the series would be translated into 22 languages, and would become a modern classic with fans all over the world.
I'm pleased and humbled to announce a 10th anniversary edition of each book, completely redesigned, with new cover art, and a completely new edit. I went through each book with my editors, fixing little mistakes and making each story feel fresh and alive. I didn't change any plot elements. If you read the series when you were a kid, it will be familiar. The first three editions hit stores May 2nd, followed by the next three in the coming months, and finally the last three early next year.
You can get the first three books at one of my favorite books stores, Oblong Books in Rhinebeck, NY. You can order them on-line here, here, and here!
Combining all the excitement of international espionage and all the awkwardness of elementary school, NERDS, featuring a group of unpopular students who run a spy network from inside their school, hits the mark. With the help of cutting-edge science, their nerdy qualities are enhanced and transformed into incredible abilities! They battle the Hyena, a former junior beauty pageant contestant turned assassin, and an array of James Bond–style villains, each with an evil plan more diabolical and more ridiculous than the last.
An action-packed, tongue-in-cheek take on the world of superheroes and villains. Jackson Jones, 11, transitions from Mr. Popular to complete loser in the time it takes to be fitted for braces with headgear. He soon happens upon the underground headquarters of a group of outcasts called NERDS, who, with the help of technology "upgrades," turn weaknesses like allergies into superpowers, fighting crime in secret until the age of 18. While trying to escape, Jackson himself is accidentally upgraded—his braces become equipped with tiny nanobytes capable of morphing into any object. Asked to join the NERDS, Jackson quickly learns that not everyone wants him around—especially those he used to pick on. Unity must come quickly, however, to foil the evil Dr. Jigsaw, whose mission to reunite the continents of the world will lead to massive destruction. The absurd story line humorously hits on some oft-ignored topics—what is the difference between a goon, a henchman, a minion, and an assassin anyway? Readers will delight in these unexpected touches. The pacing is quick and the action is plentiful—kids will almost hear the sound effects as they read. The book itself is treated as a top-secret NERDS case file, complete with increasingly ridiculous security-clearance requirements (thumbprint, saliva sample, money). Angular, black-and-white illustrations highlight main characters and pivotal moments. NERDS brings a worthy message to the fore—that uncool kids can grow up to be anything but. Funny, clever, and thoroughly entertaining, this title should be popular - School Library Journal
Kel Gilligan's Daredevil Stunt Show
From Michael Buckley, the bestselling author of the Sisters Grimm and NERDS series, and Dan Santat, author-illustrator of Sidekicks, comes this hilarious picture book starring Kel Gilligan (a.k.a. “The Boy Without Fear”) that encourages kids to laugh at their fears and celebrates the bravery it takes to try new things no matter how ordinary. Narrated by Kel himself as he attempts his “stunts” with Evel Knievel–like flair, the story unfolds as a performance in which readers themselves become part of the audience, encouraging Kel to get dressed all by himself (without a net!), eat new foods like broccoli (eww!), and take a bath (gasp!). Bold, interactive, and downright silly, this is a book to make kids cheer and attempt some “stunts” of their own.
Praise for Kel Gilligan's Daredevil Stunt Show: "The stunned faces on the 'audience' as Kel successfully chews and swallows broccoli are hilarious, and their comments will inspire many giggles... the intended audience will be rolling on the floor laughing at these silly antics... Santat’s illustrations, are busy, grandiose, loud, and proud, just like Kel Gilligan. They add depth and humor to the action." —School Library Journal
"Expect demands for multiple readings." —The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
"A fantasy romp destined to please preschoolers and parents alike who are faced with getting through the day-to-day tasks that at times feel insurmountable." —Booklist
First, we feared them. Then we fought them. Now they might be our only hope.
Sixteen-year-old Lyric Walker’s life is forever changed when she witnesses the arrival of 30,000 Alpha, a five-nation race of ocean-dwelling warriors, on her beach in Coney Island. The world’s initial wonder and awe over the Alpha quickly turns ugly and paranoid and violent, and Lyric’s small town transforms into a military zone with humans on one side and Alpha on the other. When Lyric is recruited to help the crown prince, a boy named Fathom, assimilate, she begins to fall for him. But their love is a dangerous one, and there are forces on both sides working to keep them apart. Only, what if the Alpha are not actually the enemy? What if they are in fact humanity’s best chance for survival? Because the real enemy is coming. And it’s more terrifying than anything the world has ever seen.
Action, suspense, and romance whirlpool dangerously in this cinematic saga!
In the first book of Michael Buckley’s Undertow trilogy, the Alpha arrived and the world was never the same. At the start of the second book, most of south Brooklyn is in ruins and the nation is terrified. Nearly everyone that Lyric Walker loves is either missing or presumed dead, including the mesmerizing prince Fathom. It’s up to Lyric to unite the Alpha before the second wave of a cataclysmic invasion wipes out mankind for good. The Undertow trilogy is an unforgettable reading experience that author E. Lockhart calls, "Allegorical and romantic, the book nevertheless reads like an action movie with especially awesome CGI."
HEART OF THE STORM
After seven months as a captive of Minerva, the insane Alpha queen, Lyric Walker has escaped to the surface. Her only goal is to warn the world about the Great Abyss. When she finally arrives back in Coney Island, she discovers a world she never expected, one where humans and Alpha are finally working hand in hand to rebuild the country. But she soon discovers that an old enemy allied with an old friend may kill them all before the monsters get their turn.
Where will Lyric’s loyalties, and her heart, lead her? With nail-biting action and romance, Michael Buckley’s epic trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.
What is OMG?
OMG is a traveling middle-grade book festival smashed together with a carnival mixed with a variety show and layered with games - all designed to reach reluctant readers and rabid fans of middle grade books. It's fully interactive,, giving kids an opportunity to have a real experience with their favorite writers. No dull panels. No sleepy key note speakers talking about process. OMG is just fun - which is what we believe reading should be!
Who put this together?
The four principal brains behind OMG are Sarah Mlynowski, Adele Griffin, Julia Devillers, Christina Soontornvat, and Michael Buckley, though we've gotten help from a lot of amazing people, including Lauren Walters. We wanted to create a book fest for the very underserved middle grade audience (ages 7-12).
Where can I find OMG?
This year we're launching our second fest in Denver, Colorado. Several schools will come together with fourteen well-known authors for games and laughs and a whole lot of free books. We're also teaming up with indie book sellers, The Tattered Cover for a public event featuring all our authors, plus some special guests.
How can I get involved?
OMG is a non-profit organization with the mission of putting books in the hands of children. We intend to give away books to every kid for free and put them face to face with their favorite writers. To do that we need donations. If you'd like to make a tax-deductible contribution to an amazing cause visit our Fractured Atlas page. It's fast and easy and much appreciated.
I'm excited to be part of your school's efforts to bring authors and students together. In my ten+ years as a kidlit author I have spoken to tens of thousands of students and have created a presentation that is fun, funny and interactive. It lasts roughly 40-45 minutes long and is designed to inspire students to rethink their preconceived notions about what a writer is supposed to be. Students will learn that writers aren't just people who sit at desks and type, but people who go out and have amazing experiences they can write about. They'll hear the many twists and turns my career took on his path to becoming a bestselling children's author and have time for questions and answers, as well. I don't do a hard sell for my books, as I'm more interested in inspiring your kids and urging them to become storytellers themselves.
I'm able to travel to up to two schools in one day if districts wish to share the experience across a community, as well as the costs.
At this time, my presentation needs are very small. A microphone for a large audience is really all the technology required, but I've found that when the school prepares the students for his visit by reading my latest book or portions of it, then a successful visit is almost guaranteed. If you think I would be a great fit for your school, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
